While steel and aluminum look similar in appearance, it is important to keep in mind that:

Aluminum when powder coated it will provide a superior long lasting maintenance-free finish and will not rust, flake or fade . Steel however must be painted every few years and even when properly maintained can still be prone to rust, peel and flake.

Maintenance:

Aluminum requires little maintenance to continue looking like new, due to it's characteristic and the powder coating finish. They only need to be washed with soap and water whenever they appear dirty to return them back to their original condition.

On the other hand, steel railings requires more maintenance and attention, once the rust begins to develop it needs to be removed as soon as possible or it will corrode the railings compromising its integrity.

Steel railings require the use of heavy duty power tools to install while aluminum railings are lightweight and incredibly easy to install.
